I've just undertaken a periodic sweep of links in the Blogroll and quite a few dead links have sadly been removed.  I noticed as well a number of Wordpress blogs have changed their settings to private so you can only view them if you're invited - seems odd to me, I would have thought most bloggers want as many people as possible to read their content, but I've removed those as well. I also note today that the School Corporal Punishment Discussion Board (listed in the non-Commercial websites list) is going to gradually close in the near future.  While the content was very mixed in quality there was some interesting stuff there and it will be another sad loss.

I love this annual event, currently co-ordinated by Hermione.  This year it's the 14th and 15th November (2 days to accommodate all the different time zones).  It's the chance for all the hundreds of people who visit our blog sites without ever commenting to break the habit of a lifetime and pop in to say hello - go on, you'll feel better for it! We really do love our lurkers - if the only people who came to view this site were the tiny numbers who commented, I'd have given up years ago, but the stats tell me otherwise.

Favourite for November

A lot of the images we see on spanko sites of girls who have had their bare bottoms spanked, end up with just a sort of round pinkish patch on each buttock.  That is generally achieved by applying a large number of smacks without very much force.  I'm not dismissing that or trivialising it - the discomfort is likely to build and build and it can still be very effective.  However, in the real world, when someone gets spanked the person inflicting the punishment probably wants to get it over with fairly quickly and may well be a little annoyed with the person they're punishing.  Hence, fewer smacks but with a lot more force.  That appears to be what we're seeing the results of in this case.  Much less even reddening and some very clear fingermarks around the edges.

First among equals (or last)

At the all-boys school I attended from around the age of 11 onwards, corporal punishment wasn't heavily used but it was not unusual either.  There were two styles.  Firstly, there were fairly informal punishments doled out in the classroom.  Most times these involved a slipper (gymshoe, plimsoll, whatever) although rulers and other implements were also used, but not ones that would be specifically designed or made for giving punishments.  These punishments weren't usually especially severe - my impression was that they were mostly used to calm things down a bit by making an example of one miscreant.  I'm 99% sure these were never recorded in any sort of punishment book or student file.  I'm pretty confident that most of the class, excepting the one on the receiving end, positively enjoyed the spectacle - I certainly did!

Then there were other occasions, rather more rare, when someone did something more seriously wrong and they would be sent to the deputy headmaster's office and he would cane them across the seat of their trousers.  It was apparent to everyone that these were no laughing matter and left formidable marks that would last a week or more.  I would guess that about nine times out of ten such cases just involved a single pupil and it must have been quite scary being made to stand in the office with this intimidating senior member of staff telling you off and knowing what was likely to follow.  However, on just a few occasions there was more than one pupil involved - in one instance for example, three boys from my class were sent to him for bullying a younger pupil.

That scenario fascinates me but as I never had to make such a visit the the deputy head, either alone or with others, I can only speculate on the different emotional experiences.  I imagine, but I could be wrong, that the telling-off part would have been slightly easier to cope with if you weren't on your own.  But after that...  Take the 'three boy' scenario I mentioned before.  Suppose, because of where you were standing, you were going to be the last to be caned.  Do you think you could get any enjoyment from seeing the first one being caned or the second?  Or would the thought that this was a about to happen to you be too scary to entertain  any pleasure feelings?  Conversely, suppose you happened to be first - once you'd had your caning, it would obviously still be hurting quite a lot but knowing that the worst is over, would you be able to get any enjoyment from watching your colleagues getting theirs??

I've been noticing quite a few images from Spanking101 recently and some of them are very good.  There's quite a few that depict fairly realistic looking USA style school paddling scenes, often with multiple girls.  I especially liked this one because the other girls who are going to be paddled shortly are looking on as their friend gets hers, and they're looking pretty shaken up about it. The girl standing in front of the lamp appears to almost be in tears already.

The image quality is usually really good, and the same applies to the short "taster" clips they put out.  Their website is not as good as this leads you to expect.  It's a bit chaotic in organisation - there are scene descriptions with no videos there, there is one case where there are several videos for a particular scene but some of them are placed on the adjacent scene description. Many of the clips are "instructional" videos on how to use various implements and various positions and they're not as good as the story ones. Also, they don't make all of their clips available from their subscription site - the video for the scene pictured here, for example, is only available to purchase separately from Clips4Sale and is sold in many parts costing over 50GBP for the whole thing which is rather steep - sadly this sort of pricing simply encourages piracy.

Favourite for August

So I wonder just what the story is here.  It seems pretty unlikely that it hasn't been staged for dramatic effect - I mean I rather doubt the 'sister' has really just been spanked and is using a pack of frozen peas to ease the pain as the caption suggests. Perhaps she hurt her bottom in some other way such as a fall and was trying to freeze the pain away and the person who took the picture came up with a more interesting explanation for the caption.  She seems too happy to be in any real pain.

However, I have to say that if I spanked a girl for some misbehaviour and then found she was taking the pain away using a cold compress, the peas would go straight back in the freezer and she'd get warmed up all over again...

If you visit this page often, you'll probably have realised that I'm a sucker for authenticity and therefore, in general, I prefer corporal punishment that is being portrayed as being in a school setting to not be applied bare bottom (although I'm more than happy to see the girl checking out the marks afterwards when she gets somewhere private).  However I'm making an exception for this one!

A nice face and nice bottom make for a good start and the 'urchin style' haircut is a particular favourite of mine (when I was at school I had a girlfriend who always had her hair cut in that sort of way).  Obviously what made this image jump out at me was the unusual but clever positioning with the schoolgirl's head tucked under the back of another chair.  This will seriously restrict her movement and to stop her twisting around or jumping about.  That means it will be possible for a heavy and lengthy spanking to be administered.  The shine on the side of her nose and shape of her mouth suggests she's already crying and wailing although her bottom is barely pink yet.  The care that has been taken over the positioning would suggest that there's plenty more to come.

This would definitely be a sport I would like to follow - I'd even pay for Sky Sports if necessary to get coverage.  It seems to me to have massive potential with all sorts of variants available for the future using canes, paddles etc.  Even team or relay versions.  I think they should have some pretty strict rules regarding clothing - the use of leather/latex trousers should definitely be out.  And it doesn't seem to just be a spoof - they appear to be deadly serious about it.  Find out more here.

Favourite for May

A really massive favourite this one from AEG (Realspankings etc.).  There's just so much going on.

The administrator - disappointed that she's had to punish the same girl again after a previous paddling for the same offence.  She's done her level best to make sure that the girl won't be coming back anytime soon with some real stingers this time using a heavier paddle.

The girl - on the verge of tears.  Once she's away from the office they're going to start for sure.  She's also trying not to rub her bottom until she's out of sight but it hurts so much.  It was far worse than the only other time she'd had swats.  She didn't want to go back to class and face her peers who would instantly see how upset she was - she knew that some of them would be sympathetic and kind but others would taunt her and laugh at her.  She also had going through her mind that she'd been told that because this was her second time getting swats this year the school would be phoning her parents to tell them what she'd done so she was expecting a hard time when she got home later.  Right now, the overwhelming thought was how much it had hurt at the time and how much her bottom was still really throbbing - she was going to feel this for a few days for sure and she'd probably have bruises to show for it.  And she'd been told any further trouble would mean a trip to the Principal who was reputed to reduce even the toughest boys to a blubbering mess.

Helston revisited

A recent correspondence with a regular commentator on  my blog raised the memory of an infamous case in the UK in the early 1960s when two girls were actually punished at school on their bare bottoms.  That it made its way to the courts of law and all over the national press serves to underline that this was extremely unusual and most unlikely to have happened unnoticed elsewhere.  The detail is recorded through the press at the time and collated by the famous World Corporal Punishment Research website, Corpun.  Two typical articles of the time are reproduced here.

Another report, more detailed almost to the point of lascivious interest, was published in a local newspaper - The Cornishman.  The only scan I have found of that article is of much too low a quality to be worth reproducing but Corpun does include the highlights of the text here.

Slippering

The internet is rich with people sharing memories about times they were given corporal punishment at home or school while they were growing up.  Unfortunately, the ones that us spankos are most likely to come across are very often just fantasies of the writer.  However, Facebook comes in very handy as a source for more credible accounts.  Choose almost any town or city and there will be a Facebook group called "Memories of XXX" or "History of XXX" or something like that.  A lot of them are public or can be joined very easily with no questions asked.

Then, every so often, someone will post a recollection of getting punished at school and usually dozens of others chip in with their own personal tales,  Given that these groups are drawing on a general population there are probably a high percentage of genuine recollections and they are less likely to be made up.  In many cases, some of the writer's former classmates post further information about the incident or other instances of punishment from the same teacher.  In English schools it is quite clear that, in most cases, the cane was in use for quite a period of time.  But it also clear that the slipper was used quite often as well, and in a significant number of cases schools appeared to have followed the practice of using the cane for the boys and the slipper for the girls.  That's not to say the slipper wasn't sometimes used on boys as well but it perhaps implied that the slipper was a less severe implement.

I find it quite fascinating for a number of reasons.  For one, it is probably one of the noisiest implements to use - the sound alone would be quite scary for others who might be deterred from emulating the behaviour that has brought the punishment to a brother, sister or fellow pupil.  Also, of course, in both home and school settings the "slipper" could be just there for purely innocuous reasons, unlike a cane, tawse or paddle that is blatantly there for one purpose and one alone.  The reason I put the word slipper in inverted commas is that, in a school setting at least, it would be very unusual (but not unheard of) for the implement to actually be a slipper.

In a home setting, it might well be a conventional slipper.  These often had soft material for the soles and while they might sting a bit, they were unlikely to cause any great hurt.  The advantages they offered over just using the hand would be that they were probably noisier and also saved the spanker from having to endure getting a sore hand, so opening the way for longer spankings - however light a spanking, if it goes on long enough it starts to hurt.  The softer slipper could also be more easily wielded by someone who had quite a small hand.  Finally, moving on from "just" a hand spanking to the use of an implement could, of itself, imply an escalation.

As time has gone on, the nature of items worn as a slipper has changed - not that the soft and fluffy sort have gone away, but quite a lot nowadays have a thin but relatively stiff plastic sole quite capable of producing a fairly significant sting.  I even read an account a long time ago of someone being punished with the sole of a Dr Scholl exercise sandal.

If that was one of the traditional style of exercise sandals with a wooden sole (or even the faux wood in the one shown here), that would take things to a whole different level - that could really hurt, even through clothing.

In schools, as I've said, although pretty well everyone referred to such punishments as "slippering", it was very rare for a slipper to be the chosen implement.  It would most commonly be the footwear that was worn, typically, for PE classes.  These were variously known as gymshoes, plimsolls, sandshoes, dabs (and probably a myriad of other names as per local custom).

They would have a canvas top and a rubber sole - usually with some sort of wavy pattern on it.

They could be either lace-up or elasticated - the elasticated ones tended to aimed at younger children and were therefore usually smaller.  In cases where a teacher just took one that was lying around to chastise an errant pupil, they would probably take care to ensure the laces in the former were tucked out of the way.  Some teachers kept a gymshoe handy, in their desk perhaps, in which case laces were often removed.  In the mythology of schools, it was generally implied that the larger the gymshoe, the more it would hurt (although this may not be strictly correct) so kids would be especially in awe of a teacher who carried an old size 12 gymshoe, for example.  If it had a particularly worn sole, the assumption was that it had come down hard on a lot of bottoms, although, of course, the reality was probably that the wear came from previous use.

The Facebook accounts do suggest it was used a lot on girls which is, to me in any case, very interesting.  When you read such memories about school canings - of either gender - it transpires that the cane was often used on the palm of the hand.  In the case of girls, it would almost always be on the palm of the hand.  With a slippering, it would almost always be applied to the bottom, so accounts of girls getting the slipper would almost certainly have involved them having a sore behind.

I really love this image of Pandora Blake from her Dreams of Spanking website of her getting a slippering across a very tight and short skirt.  That is probably a pretty accurate representation of what must have happened on quite a lot of occasions.

This one of Belinda Lawson from Firm Hand Spanking also also has a good degree of realism - the only issue is that as she is wearing trousers.  There was a fairly narrow window of time between having some schools beginning to allow girls to wear trousers to the time corporal punishment was abolished across UK schools. 

This one from Institute of Discipline also scores quite well on the realism scale as it appears to be taking place in the context of a PE class - in my experience PE teachers had a reputation for a bit of a sadistic streak and also had the advantage of having access to a ready supply of gymshoes that have been lost or abandoned over the years

However, this image from Institute of Discipline does show one problem - the relatively rigid structure of the gymshoe might have been a bit unwieldy for a small female hand to get a good grip on.

Another one from Firm Hand Spanking, this time with Rhianna Parsons (aka Danielle Hunt) on the receiving end is probably how many might hope a school slippering might be administered with the skirt turned back.  This was probably very rare in real life.

In a home setting it may well have been used with the skirt turned back or even, as in this case from Real Spankings (AEG) with the lovely Riley, on the bare bottom.  Interestingly in this case the spanker is holding the gymshoe by the main body and striking Riley's bottom with the heel - although this was probably rather unusual, it would have hurt more because there was much less flexibility in the heel.

This image from Xerotic's Spanked Schoolgirl site shows the more conventional hold on a gymshoe (although the laces have not been safely tucked out of the way) but a bare bottom slippering like this almost certainly never happened in schools except in fantasy.

Any teacher getting a girl to bend over and pulling down her knickers to wallop her with a gymshoe like we see here would almost certainly have found his career cut short.

I attended school in an era when corporal punishment was in use and I suppose when I was between the age of ten and fourteen I would have seen the gymshoe used on a number of occasions and a few memories stand out (sorry to disappoint, but I have to say in advance that at that stage I was in an all-boys school environment).

Firstly, it was almost always in public - often in front of the class with the naughty lad called to the front, told to bend over, and then given a single whack.  I did also witness, on at least a couple of occasions, pupils made to report to a teacher at lunchtime or break time and having to bend over in a  corridor to be whacked in front of anyone who happened to be passing - I would assume in those cases the teacher didn't have access to the right equipment during the class but a supply of gymshoes was probably available in the staff room.

We also had our fair share of slipper-happy PE teachers.  Often they carried a gymshoe to encourage you to put in a bit more effort by aiming a passing whack at the seat of your shorts as the opportunity arose.  I hated PE and the liberal use of the slipper didn't change my mindset one bit.  I can remember very clearly one time we were supposed to vaulting over a gym-horse.  Quite a few of us were pretending to just mistime our take off and fail to go over the horse, so he took up position at the side and if you didn't go over you got a whack straight away.  To be fair, he wasn't hitting hard - it barely tingled, but I copped a few that day.

I also remember one time a teacher called someone out to the front for some hideous crime but the teacher didn't have a gymshoe with him so he asked the class if anyone could help out.  To say there was an unseemly scramble to offer him assistance would be an understatement.  It was a friend of mine who got out there first with one of his gymshoes.  The reprobate who was to be spanked was made to touch his toes, the teacher delivered one hard and satisfyingly loud whack across the trousers tightly stretched over his bottom, then the gymshoe was returned and everyone went back to their seats.  The one who had been whacked managed to be quite stoical (as was generally expected).

After the class my friend was clearly excited by the part he'd played and was keen to tell me what had actually happened.  It turned out he didn't have a conventional gymshoe like most of us were still using but one of the new "training shoes" that were just coming in.  Some of you may recall that in the very early days these had a very hard polyurethane type sole and my friend was positively gleeful in showing me and saying how that must have really hurt.

I think, in practice, one of the things that interests me most about this type of slippering is that it could appear very much the same to the assembled audience but the teacher could vary considerably the force he was using and the extent of the follow-through - so two pupils could get whacked apparently the same and one - perhaps the more habitual troublemaker - could get hurt a lot more.

In almost all cases that I saw (although this does not appear to have been the case in many schools if Facebook postings are to be believed) such punishments were almost always just a single whack.  There was one occasion I remember when a serial offender, who had in fact been caned by the headmaster just a couple of weeks earlier, was brought out to the front of class for some perceived offence - as usual he was told to touch his toes and the teacher gave him, not one, but two hard whacks of the slipper.  The boy immediately started crying.  Very interesting - he'd come across as having been very unconcerned by the caning he'd experienced in the privacy of the head's office but was now crying at a "mere" slippering.  Was he taken by surprise by getting two rather than the usual one, or did the teacher really lay it on with more than usual force.  Or did he cry when he got caned as well but managed to avoid anyone finding out?

Classroom slipperings, in my experience, were very much the unofficial punishments - they would not have been recorded anywhere.  They seemed to have an extensive range - I saw boys changing for PE or swimming classes an hour or so after having been slippered and their bottom's were barely marked.  I saw others with dark bruises a day later.

Favourite for April

There can be little doubt that the wooden back of a hairbrush can be a really scary thing.  Wielded by a mother who is plainly furious for some reason, it doesn't seem that this girl's tears, protests and pleas will do much to save her from having a very sore bottom before very long.  I think she'll spend tonight sleeping on her tummy.

The Janus shop

The first time I ever saw the Janus shop in London I was in my late teens and visiting a theatre with my parents so although spotting it's location was quite exciting in itself, I didn't have to make the decision about whether or not I felt bold enough to enter.

By that time it was already past the era when such shops were allowed to display merchandise in their windows so it was with the famous black facade.

The next time I managed to arrange a trip to London by myself I headed straight over although I think I walked past on the opposite side of the road several times trying to catch a glimpse of someone else either entering or leaving - probably to reassure myself that they looked vaguely normal.

Eventually I did get the courage to go in and was instantly enthralled.  Once inside it was a very relaxing place to be and I found you were free to spend however long you wanted browsing through the huge collection of Janus magazines and other spanking related materials.  There was always a small selection of canes, tawses and paddles on display as well as VHS tapes and a few books.  Books and some of the older materials tended to be sealed-up but the main stock of Janus, Roué, Phoenix, Blushes, Fessée, Cul d'Or  etc etc magazines were there for you to browse from cover to cover for as long as you could wish.

I remember on one visit there was the sound outside of a passing police car siren and I momentarily wondered what would happen if the shop was raided by the police when I was there, but the member of staff on duty never showed any flicker of reaction - it probably happened dozens of times each day in that area.

The staff on the cash desk by the door always seemed friendly enough and the fact that there was no pressure to make a purchase even if you'd been there for ages was really good.  However, dialogue with the staff tended to be very short and to the point.  Just before the ban on CP videos came in I purchased a copy of The Disciplinarian from them and enquired what they'd be doing with leftover stock (hoping there might be a last-minute sale) and was just told they would be sent to alternative outlets.  When the short lived Fessée magazine ceased I asked why and was told they had found more lucrative business activities.

I visited many times over the years and must have, cumulatively, spent many hours and and many hundreds of pounds there.  I never saw it "busy" - occasionally you were the only customer in the store for a while but usually there were three or four people at a time - I never saw or experienced any conversation between customers which seems odd now - clearly anyone in there for more than a minute shared similar interests but it just didn't seem to be the thing to do.  I did occasionally see female customers in other sex shops in Soho but never in Janus - regulars will, however, probably remember the elderly and very wheezy lady who appeared every so often from the back of the shop and make her way down to the cash desk before returning to her secret life behind the scenes.

Evidently the former spanking model Rosaleen Young has visited the shop - probably in it's later years - but it's far from clear whether the shop was open to customers at the time.  Also the Janus models Nicola and Priscilla (Janus 23 and 46) did an interview in Janus 48 where they expressed the intention to visit the shop sometime.

It is self-evident that the era of magazine porn is largely over and the rationale for such shops has gone with it.  I can't help thinking that today, if there was some sort of CP themed cafe, it would be much more friendly, there would be as many females as males using it, and there would be lots of dialogue between visitors even if they were meeting for the first time.  The days of it all seeming a bit seedy and risky are well and truly over.

Charlotte arrived home after being sent there for the rest of the day for fighting at school. The maid opened the front door to let her in and whispered to Charlotte that the headmistress had phoned and had a very long conversation with her father.  He was in his study and had left instructions that Charlotte was to report there immediately on arrival. The maid tried to sound sympathetic but they both knew Charlotte wasn't going to talk him 'round this time.  Charlotte also knew that the maid would be outside the study door listening in - and Charlotte had an uncomfortable feeling she was going to get a good hiding for this one.

Movie Bloopers revisited

Last year I post about some of those scenes in spanking movies that would probably not have made the final edit in a mainstream movie.  It's much more difficult when you're giving your star a severe hiding to decide to throw that bit of tape away and re-shoot it when the marks have faded.

I thought people might like a few more examples from some of our best spanking movie producers.

1. I have to confess that I can't recall the studio here but I wonder what would happen if the girl reacted to a particularly painful swat by jerking her head back - that microphone looks very close!

2. One from the talented Real-Life-Spankings label - an apparently intimate scene with a conventional OTK spanking being carried out in the privacy of the home.  Well, private except for the ghostly figure in the doorway who isn't, as it happens, showing much interest.

3. This is from the Lupus Pictures (now trading as Quirky Way) film The Exchange Student.  The scene is a particularly severe bare bottom caning that is most definitely not faked.  The poor girl (Denisa Petráková) currently having to endure no less than 40 hard strokes of the cane across her bare bottom, is having to do it all with a camera inches from her face. (BTW - if you're only ever going to buy one Lupus film, this would be my personal recommendation.)

4. Another one from AEG's Real Spankings Institute where, it appears, a video camera is an essential requirement at the front of every classroom.

5. Finally, another where I've forgotten the studio, but a quite hilarious moment when the girl being spanked has to try to shooh away a cat that seems to want to lick her face.  It reminds me that I still haven't tracked down the scene, I believe featuring Catherine Corbet, where she had a mouse running 'round her feet - anyone?
