Obviously not the highest quality of images and just in B&W but I really like this picture for it's understatement. The teacher is clearly lecturing the two miscreants at some length. The longer it goes on, the more apprehensive they must be getting as it seems ever more serious. Maybe he'll get one or both of them to start crying before he even punishes them. It's probably no coincidence that their hands are resting on their bottoms as the realisation grows that they're both going to have those bottoms warmed up considerably in a few moments time. A totally believable scene that probably happened hundreds of times in schools.
At this time of year I like to also feature a favourite video of the year - last year I couldn't decide on one that seemed appropriate but I've got a corker lined up this time around - coming up in a few days time...!

Ah! The good old days when girls wore a sash to show which house they were in.

Yes, a powerful nostalgic photo, thank you, James.
I first saw these photos as a student in the 1970s in Atlanta, USA. I had escaped a strict, religious upbringing and enjoyed some freedom. Magazines like Janus, Roue etc captured the sober, sombre scary mood of corporal punishment in my own childhood at home in the 1960s, even though these were UK school scenes.
The contexts translated well in an authentic way. The mindset was realistic. In this photo, my sister and me gonna get our 1950s Southern belle dresses raised, our 1950s cotton, white panties pulled down to our knees, and our pudgy, bare, alabaster-white bottles whooped red n sore with the cane by our mother, just as we gotten in the living room at home in the 1960s. This is nostalgic and realistic.
James, I then gotten God-blessed myself with two young daughters in the 1980s and as a strict, loving, conservative and hard-working mom, I raised my girls with the same lil' rattan cane...kept in the downstairs cupboard for their bare bottoms when lies or tantrums prevailed. That was the punishment. Knickers always gotten pulled down for chastisement in front "in front of God." There was no CP nonsense in Georgia back then. And no CP nonsense in Janus or your great Blog, James.
Sure worked swell for us all. My girls are happy, successful and pro-spanking in their thirties now.
Great photo and memories, ruefully of course. But just normal in a traditional, chruch-attending, Southern family where spanking was a routine fact.
Regards,
Brenda xx
