Today marks 18 years since I started this blog. A lot has changed in that time. I decided to mark the event by adding a photo I saw in one of the first copies of Janus I ever got my hands on. It was Volume 9 Number 4, which they acclaimed as their 100th edition. It had a feature about spanking scenes in mainstream movies, and it featured this image.
It depicts June Allyson getting an OTK spanking in the film Too Young To Kiss. Or rather, it is a staged publicity photo supposedly depicting a scene from the movie. The actual scene isn't quite as good. He's just climbed out of a swimming pool and is not wearing a suit. She's in PJs and a dressing gown and doesn't have the cute ankle socks, but on the plus side, he does wallop her with a slipper.
That photo set me off on a lifelong quest to find spankings in mainstream movies, and even 'though I know this picture was faked, it remains one of my all-time favourite images.

Oh my! I never ever forgotten that oft repeated editorial line from Janus back in those days of Volume 8 & 9 in the late 1970s:
Naughty girls need to be disciplined with a "sensible, knickers-down caning" at home.
Well, quite right too, James !
And so, nearly 50 years' later....
Why, I certainly recall most viscerally Volume 9 number 1, James (from January 1980).....featuring The Art of Caning film (one of my absolute faves) where a thieving, naughty lil' niece gotten her bare botty smacked in the living room, by strict Aunty with her trusty cane. Dress hoisted & white cotton panties pulled down to her knees. The front cover alone was mega !!
Oh my! And I had gotten hooked before, by all the previous editions of Volume 8, in 1979. The Janus magazine covers were mesmerizing, showing naughty girls having their bare bottoms smacked & caned in the most authentic fashion eg the spectacular Vol 8 numbers 2, 4 & 11.
Moreover, the front covers of three Janus magazines from Volume 8 in 1979 showed photos ("stills") from "The Lesson" films which were beyond compelling & indeed pioneering. I so loved both the magazine coverage & these game changing silent films themselves, already.

I especially liked the bare bottom caning of the naughty girl on the front cover of Vol 8, number 12, The School Lesson. It was beyond mesmerizing & visceral for me as a Uni student back then (I had escaped a very strict, Ol' fashioned upbringing). Yes, those early Janus magazines (especially 1978-1985 The Golden Age ) were an earthquake in terms of pioneering media production, but the subject matter - AKA the bare, red bottoms of naughty daughters - were in reality just a normal fact of good, traditional life in yore, James ! Just normal & necessary.
