Furniture (Part 2)

To my mind, categorising the furniture of CP in terms what purpose it serves is more interesting.  For example it may be used because it presents the target area in a way that makes it easier to apply the punishment.  Compared to my previous system of classification, any particular example can be ranked as to how much it serves any of a number of purposes – some of these might be:

• Retention – How significantly the furniture serves in preventing the subject getting away
• Presentation - How significantly the furniture serves in giving the punisher an advantageous position to address the target area
• Comfort - How significantly the furniture serves in allowing the subject to stay in position for longer periods of time
• Discomfort – How significantly the furniture serves in adding to the pain of the primary punishment
• Exposure/humiliation – How significantly the furniture serves in enhancing the experience by shaming the subject
• Anonymity – How significantly the furniture serves in preventing the subject being able to see who is carrying out the punishment
• Unpredictability – How effectively the furniture makes it difficult for the subject to know when the next impact is going to happen
• Vertical immobility – How significantly the furniture serves in preventing the subject from moving the target area in the same direction as the punishment is being applied at the point of impact (in order to marginally lessen the impact)
• General immobility – How significantly the furniture serves in preventing the subject from moving the target area in other ways to impede the punishment
• Restraining interference - How significantly the furniture serves in preventing the subject impeding the punishment (e.g. by putting their hands in the way)
• Ritualisation – To what extent is the furniture employed to simply add drama to the event
• Instability – How significantly the furniture makes the subject feel more precarious, at risk, and vulnerable

It may seem odd that some things appear contradictory and especially that “comfort” for the subject might be an issue even worth considering.   It’s best to look at some examples.  I'm going to start today with the simplest types of furniture - human, or none at all.

Here's the truly classic school punishment pose - not quite touching her toes but bending over with no furniture as such and as such, so apparently none of the things identified above being affected?  Actually they are because it is inherently uncomfortable, especially if made to touch the toes properly. it's humiliating and forces the subject to take responsibility themselves for being in the right position.  They may feel unstable and concerned by having been told to expect extra if they move, it presents the target very effectively for a cane, slipper, belt or paddle.

Moving to human furniture, we start with the classic OTK position nicely demonstrated by Michael Masterson and Jessica.  The bottom is, of course, nicely presented (although this example is unusual as a cane would not generally work so well like this - the short cane used here seems to be doing an excellent job), she may not be very firmly restrained a things stand but the pressure from the hand on her back could be increased as necessary so she's not going anywhere and has limited mobility.  When OTK is delivered but eh subject having both hands and feet off the floor like this, then it does increase the instability sensation.  As it is at this moment, she could impeded the punishment with her hands or by kicking her legs in which case some adjustment might be needed.  While the punishment isn't actually in progress, for example during a lengthy lecture before it starts, it can be quite a physically comfortable position so there is no need to rush to start the beating itself.

This is a lovely way to show how adaptable human furniture can be.  Perhaps the subject is not quite as used to having her bottom spanked as Jessica in the previous image and has put up rather more of a struggle,  Clamping her legs will have very effectively ended that.  She has absolutely no prospect of escape,  Also because she is now only across one leg, she is slightly further forward and needs to keep a hand on the floor to steady herself.  This can go on for as long as he sees fit and if he decides to take her panties down as well as her shorts she still won't be able to do a thing about it.

Human furniture can do more than just OTK as well.  Here we see a subject significantly immobilised even though she's still standing,   It looks to have already been quite a heavy spanking and yet possibly not near to being over, but the subject can hardly move at all and is also rather limited in seeing when the next smack is about to land - in this case I suspect that is less important as they seem to be coming hard and fast.   Nor is the subject in a position to try to put a hand in the way - they are pretty well powerless.  I suspect that in real life domestic situations involving a spontaneous spanking, this may have been an even more common style than OTK, but of course that also means it's less ritualised.

Furniture (Part 1)

We talk a lot about the different instruments that can be used in corporal punishment and most aficionados of the subject have their own favourite – the hand, the cane, the slipper, the belt, paddle, the birch…  We talk a lot about costume - skirt up, pants down, naked, tight jeans, uniformed…

We seem to talk very little about the furniture but I think it’s equally a topic worth attention.

On one level you could have four very simple categories:-

• ·       No furniture at all
• ·       “Human” furniture
• ·       “Accidental” furniture
• ·       “Intentioned” furniture

In the first case the subject receiving the punishment is usually just standing or bending unsupported.  The second case might include putting them over your knee, under your arm, or the more unusual practice of horsing as formerly used sometimes in public schools and the like where a third persons back becomes the “furniture.”  The last two categories would be the more traditional notion of furniture distinguished between what I’ve termed “accidental” as in objects that just happen to be there (bending over a desk or chair, lying face down on a bed etc.) or “intentioned” when it’s something designed or purposed for the task.  Many of the final category come from those operating more at the BDSM end of the spectrum or judicial punishments but not all.  There are also some borderline examples – for example if someone is misbehaving during a PE class and is made to bend across a vaulting horse to be punished it might appear the be in the “accidental” category but if the headmaster has decided to put a vaulting horse in his office it would appear to be rather more “intentioned.”

I’m really interested in a different basis for categorising, which is by intention and consequence of use, and I’ll talk about that in my next post tomorrow.

Favourite for April

Well March turned out to be rather a quiet one for me blog-wise, mainly because I spent a large part of it in a country that blocks access to blogger.com.  So I'll have to make up for it in April.

Here's something a bit different.

I've always rather liked outdoor scenes and this looks like a very public place like a park, where the couple have decided to risk being caught engaging in a little spanking action.  There's something about the fact that she has dropped her jeans just far enough to expose her knickers and he's just pulled the belt off his trousers that makes it all seem rather spontaneous and unplanned.  She's not even wearing especially sexy underwear but she has a nice figure and I would have loved to have stumbled on this little drama.  You have to assume the action would have become rather more intense when they got back home.

Favourite for March

This is a timeless classic - a mature schoolgirl who would clearly think she is too old to be given a spanking seems to be discovering that the headmaster's hard hand coming down firmly on the seat of her school skirt is rather more painful than she might have imagined.  Right now, he's doing the decent thing and only using his hand and leaving her fully covered but if she continues to struggle and resist it's easy to imagine that skirt being flipped back for him to continue giving her a good hiding on her regulation panties and then she'll begin to understand how really effective a hand spanking can still be.  Were she unwise enough to utter any bad language or profanities then we have to assume that she hasn't noticed or taken heed of the canes standing in the corner behind his desk to deal with such eventualities.

Favourite for February

Sometimes less is more.  I have a very strong imagination and sometimes I prefer an image which doesn't do all the work for me.  Don't get me wrong, a pretty girl over someones lap with her panties around her ankles and skirt flipped back with a rapidly reddening pair of buttocks is very pleasant.

But sometimes I just prefer an image that gives my the germ of an idea where I can wonder what caused this to come about, how things have reached this situation or what's going to happen next.  This image comes very much in that last category.

A shapely young woman on a summer's day with a nice pair of short and wearing plimsolls has clearly decided that rules are not meant for her - she's climbing over that gate and is intent on cooling down in that pool.  What will happen, who will stumble upon her and what he or she will do (and whether it will involve an alternative use for one of those plimsolls).

Relative Values

Yesterday's Sunday Times in the UK included the following advertisement for their own special publication...

I was briefly quite excited - I should have known better!  Two males talked about their father giving them spankings where they had to pretend they had hurt but they were too timid for them to have really felt them.  The only female to admit to having been spanked was Lisa Marie Presley and that was no revelation and was rather lacking in detail.  Shame because there was rather a good one the other week when the TV cook Mary Berry and her daughter Annabel talked about Mary's use of a butter pat to administer discipline.

Strange phenomenon

Isn't it strange - we've got used to better and better quality of colour images and videos - I often think it's quite sad that some of the material from ten years ago is not to the standards we expect today despite the selfless participation of all concerned.

And yet, sometimes you come across a black and white image that is anything but high quality, and yet just because it's lacking the best standards, it makes you think for a moment that just maybe this was someone managing to grab a quick image of the real thing.

It's kind of hard to imagine what Prince Harry sees in his current girlfriend Cressida Bonas (nicknamed Bon Arse).

On second thoughts, maybe not that difficult.

Before the internet

It's hard to remember how hard it was to explore a fascination with the spanking fetish in the days before the Internet.  There's no doubt I was fascinated for years at a time when I had to search really hard to find anything to stimulate my interest - perhaps part of the reason why I took to writing my own spanking fiction.  I was aware that their were magazines like Janus, Martinet, Spank and Sting (from reading The English Vice by Ian Gibson from cover to cover in my local reference library) but assumed that it was only in places like Soho that they would be found and I wasn't likely during my teenage years to have unfettered access to such places.

When I started applying to universities and getting invited for interviews two things happened very quickly.  Firstly I noticed that many businessmen travelling on trains seemed to have porno mags in their briefcases.  Then, one day in the autumn of 1977 or early 1978, I travelled for an interview at one of the universities in Manchester.  As I walked out of the station I passed a newsstand and my eyes were drawn to the top of a copy of Janus at the back of the stand.  For the rest of my visit I kept thinking about it and remember very little else about the university visit.   On the assumption that I knew nobody in Manchester and would probably not be going back there any time soon I revisited the newsstand on my return to the station and bought the magazine.

 And here it is - well, to be honest, here is another copy that I purchased later for nostalgic reasons.  At some point in the following years I had a purge of my growing collection of spanking magazines and this one was lost in the process.  To be honest the content was a bit disappointing and not really to my taste.  The stories were okay but the drawings were uninspiring and the dated costumes fro many of the models were not to my liking.   However, years later, I found a copy in the Janus shop in Soho and decided (even 'though it was marked up to six times to original cover price) to re-purchase as it was a piece of my personal history.  I also realised that there were often shops selling this type of material close to railway stations, presumably to satisfy the needs of travelling businessmen.

I have the magazine still although I haven't revised my view of the images.  In fact, looking through it recently, there was really only one poor quality black and white image that I rather like.
