What we do know for sure is that we see a young girl who is in trouble at school (I have to say that I believe and hope that the girl is actually over 18 and is fully consenting to model this scene, but is blessed with looking very much like she could be a teenage girl). Behind her, we can see the headmaster flexing the cane in his hands, so we know that she's paying the price of her poor behaviour by having her bottom caned. We can see that she's crying and is visibly upset. We know the caning is not actually underway at this moment by the way he's holding the cane. We don't know if the tears are caused by having just received a very painful caning, or whether they are from anticipation of what is about to happen. I think it is likely that her behaviour will show a noticeable improvement in the coming days.

To put your mind at rest (on the age thing) I can't immediately note which film its from, but it is definitely from a Lupus Films production - I recognize just enough of the face, the background and the uniform for that.

THWIP-SMACK! .....and of course, the corresponding ascendancy in grimaces, trauma & consternation of those naughty reddening cheeks (pun definitely intended James: upper & nether-skinned rotundities inclusive)

And, Oh my! Now, for naughty lil' Ol' me (recently turned 67 ha-ha!) the most visceral visual perpetually seared onto my mindfulness, is of my poor lil' sister's Boo-Hoo-Squawky-Botties-Big-Bad-Baby-Blubber-Face in the living room at home in yore; bending, bawling & banshee-wailing, as mom's whippy-thin rattan cane whistled across her chubby, bare, alabaster-white buttocks.(rapidly turning redder than her crumpled, so-sad-rouge-face). Snow white to Rose red for sure.
That was the punishment. Period.

I agree… sometimes “less is more” is quite right… Letting one’s imagination fo some of the work, filling in the details of what is happening. Seeing tears and genuine emotion is a great element to include when telling the disciplinary story.
