I know and understand that some people don't feel comfortable with spanking scenes based around a teacher/schoolgirl scenario but an awful lot more do. I think it's important to realise that such scenes are not meant to depict something we would feel comfortable with if it were happening now in real life and certainly not with minors or non-consenting adults. However, when consenting adults want to play with a spanking (or in this case, caning) theme, dressing in suitable school attire and, ideally, using an appropriate setting, can intensify the experience. I think we all understand that this sort of scenario would, at one time, have been something that happened for real and the participants can get themselves into the mindset of what it might have been like for both parties. And for me, the more realistic it is to something that would once have happened in schools up and down the country the better. That's why I tend to favour those scenes where the girl being punished is not unclothed.
Were girls ever caned on their bare bottoms by a male teacher? Well, sadly, the answer is yes, but in most cases we know they really happened because the teacher was prosecuted and convicted of a serious criminal offence.
However, might a teacher have got away with turning a girl's skirt back and caning on their panties? I think they probably would, for several reasons. The knickers in the 1950s and 1960s covered a larger area than their modern-day counterparts and were generally of a rather thicker material. Girls were relatively relaxed with the knowledge that others would quite often see their knickers and, indeed, PE classes might be conducted with just a vest and PE knickers so they would be exposed at those times. It is also a fact that girls seemed to quite enjoy doing cartwheels and handstands thus exposing their knickers to all and sundry and that they maybe even chose to do that to tease the boys. From the teacher's point of view, if a girl was bending forward to be caned, the hem of her skirt would likely be just about where he was aiming to land the strokes and would interfere and make aim difficult. Flipping the skirt up would make for a much clearer target area, The girl would probably have far more to worry her than the thought of him seeing her knickers.

I totally agree with your every word, James, & I am reliably informed & reassured, that following a letter home to her parents, and a back-up phone call from school to her mother; that this naughty Lil' Missy gotten a further dose of the cane at home. Well, it is the 1950s !?
Alas, at home, while her school skirt was similarly raised well clear of the chubby target, this time, those comfy blue knickers were sadly pulled down to her knees by her mom for the cane.....so that she could "fear & feel" the sting on her completely bare backside. It sure made her scream n squawk! Indeed, this was simply the normal, regular punishment for disobedience & bad behaviour in Lil' Missy's house: ergo, cane to bare botty (both for her & her younger sister). Missy's redoubtable, strict, loving mother gave no quarter regarding firm discipline.
For me, growing up in the 1960s, spankings at school were on clothed bottoms (absolutely as you say, James. No fantasy nonsense please!). However, in contrast, at home, spankings were on firmly on unclothed bottoms. It was normal & necessary.
Indeed, as I ruefully recall, that was certainly the case for me & my sister in the 60s/70s, absolutely without question (when naughty, we invariably gotten soundly tanned with the cane on our bare buttocks, from mom - Oh my! It was the only punishment in town ! There were no lighter sentences or punishment options. it was strict !!!) And for sure, it was also the case for most of my princess besties in our Church & suburb (albeit the strap on daughters' bare bottoms was more common than the cane).
My understandings & observations of traditional British CP (at school & at home) in the 1970s & 80s were eagerly captured from literature, films, magazines & general media....and yes, the wonderful Readers' Letters in Janus & Roue. I was a student in the late1970s, & was like your good self James, an erstwhile protagonist of "spanking research" ....although I think y'all strictly raised daughters were back then, sorely in effect, by default !!! We innocent (strictly raised) bystanders, turned red-bottomed experts over the years.....the seat of learning indeed, James !
