It may be a long time ago now, but there really was a time when errant pupils in English schools might be given the dreaded instruction "Touch your toes" immediately before a caning was firmly applied to the recipient's bottom. I heard that instruction given to others on several occasions and it was quite chilling. It always strikes me as much more evocative than the American equivalent of "Assume the position."
And it is a lovely sight when someone can follow the instruction so precisely.

To much guessing to imagine that she is about to be taught the error or errors of her ways...?

Wink for you on Thursday...

In America, often the order was “grab your ankles”.
Hello James, thanks for the mention and for tagging my site, much appreciated.
Love the attire.
The seat of learning
Yes, wonderful photo, thank you James. A familiar scene to me, as it shows how we girls gotten the cane at home rather than at school !!! :-)
Or at least how the cane should be administered by mom at home !!!
......on the bare bottom.
That's exactly how my sister & I gotten it from our mother growing up in the 1960s. That was the punishment: and it was considered nothing but normal & necessary back then, naturally. The cane, "rod of correction", lived in the cupboard, The sentence gotten passed. And the sentence (punishment) gotten carried out.
Your photos & posts always elicit a powerful penchant for details & contexts,
James, thank you. Feelings of nostalgia, & indeed for the stinging trauma & drama of exactly what a smacked bottom entailed back in yore !
For me here, the position of the panties are paramount, or at least interesting. When we gotten the cane growing up, mom always raised our skirts (as shown) & always pulled our panties down to just above our knees...also as shown. Interesting.
We were never ordered to take off our panties or remove clothing. Our fabrics were simply adjusted to fully expose or bare botties for punishment.
Quite right too.....our mom said "a bare bottom is a bare bottom. No need to be naked or remove knickers" How logical, if God darn scary, James. Oh my !!
Indeed, our panties were rarely even taken down to our calves or ankles either. This pulled-down "hugging knees" position of our 1950s cotton, white knicks was part of the regular formality & baring process in prep for the cane.
I find this image powerful & nostalgic, James.
Oh my! Maybe too much detail from me here (apologies) but each of your lovely monthly images evokes an artistic & indeed practical, pray Oh so rueful (ha-ha! Raw-Sore-Botties. Boo-Hoo!) memory & response, already.
Well at least from yours truly !
Thanks and kind regards, as always
Brenda xx
