Choosing a UK university

Sod the league tables - look at the social life as seen on the Students Union websites! Essex gets off to quite a promising start with some obviously "skool" based entertainment...
But evidently they're not the only ones, and this looks like my kindof place... And then, at the last moment, in comes Northumbria University. Hmmm!

Are students a waste of space?

There's plenty of people who think so. After all, they cost the rest of us a lot of money, they don't study they miss more classes than they attend, do the bare minimum of work, and they're noisy and drunk most of the time. If that's your viewpoint, you'll probably be as pleased as I was to see one university has now found a use for students. Would that every university offered such a facility.

Real life

I've made reference a few times to the fact that I went to schools in the UK that used corporal punishment before it was banned. Even so it was curiously difficult to really know everything that went on because the most serious punishment were always in private and those on the receiving end were usually reluctant to discuss it. There were lots of beliefs that built up that may have been completely true or just urban myths. One I was always curious about was that it was widely suggested that if you were given three detentions in one term you would automatically get sent to the Deputy Head for a caning. I have no idea whether it was true - I certainly can't recall any teacher every saying it and I never heard of a case where it happened. But it seemed to make sense and most of us believed it. I'd love to know if anyone else went to a school with such a rule. If it did happen at my school then the timing of the caning didn't have any connection with the timing of the detention. I think if I'd been the Deputy Head I'd have wanted to have such a rule but I'd have wanted to have linked the caning to the third detention - either making the miscreant take the caning and then sit in silent discomfort for the duration of the detention without the opportunity to rub it or rush to the loo to look at the marks, or perhaps even more effective to tell them at the start of the detention that they would be caned at the end so they had to sit there with nothing to distract them from thinking about what was to come.

I'm still here!

Long time since I've posted but I'm still around - just very busy. However I couldn't resist pointing to some of the rather unusual punishment implements cropping up on eBay lately.

We're all (those of us who read these sorts of pages I mean) familiar with the idea of wooden paddles with holes in to reduce the air resistance and therefore increase the impact. But I can't recall ever seeing before a tawse given the same treatment. This one claims to be a genuine old punishment strap - I thought the "Made in Scotland" looked a bit suspect but it may well be genuine. I'd be interested if anyone has ever come across anything like this, especially anyone who's been on the receiving end. I imagine it would pack quite a sting. Also wonder if any modern-day makers have tried anything similar?

Bangkok report

While I'm living it up in Bangkok - Sin City - I wonder if anyone reading this has ever explored the world of the Demonia Club (formerly The Cave).

The initial impression is that in any interesting version of "anything goes" Bangkok, what is described as a fetish club is largely concerned with BDSM which is a bit on the edge of my personal area of interests.

The place seems to offer a mixture of traditional Bangkok fayre - bars full of girls there largely to satisfy the whim of almost entirely male customer-base, (vis-a-vis the website lists prices to buy drinks for the girls which is the standard way to pay for their attentions), plus a sex show with a BDSM slant, plus the suggestion that you can take part on either side.

The setup clearly has a very strong BDSM look to it and may be rather to heavy for many readers to be actively interested in exploring.

However, explore a little further and it does seem to offer some "scenes" that I for one find an interest in. The website shows a number of such scenes as seen below.

The girl in red seems to feature on the receiving end several times. I suppose I'm thinking it looks like I might find about 10% of the action interesting, but I'm fascinated to know two things - is it really possible to get involved at this place, and is there anywhere around that's run on similar lines but more to our tastes?

The website says "Based in Bangkok, Thailand. Demonia specializes in Fetishes, BDSM, the bizarre, the imaginative and the erotic for men, women and couples. At Demonia you come to find a Mistress or submissive, with whom you can play out your fantasy, or just watch the athmosphere (sic) and enjoy real bondage in Bangkok."

Can anyone shed any light on what it's like? I've walked past a couple of times but I think I'd like to hear from others before exploring further.

Quick test for you!

So, last week, I'm going around my local ASDA doing my weekly shop and I get bored with fruit and vegetables and wander over to stationery where I spot a new product I've not seen before - a FLEXI RULER. As you can see it looks like a normal 12 inch ruler but when you pick it up you discover that it's, er, well, flexible.

Allow me to demonstrate...

So what goes through my mind? Is it...

a) Can't see much point to that unless you intend to measure 'round curves with it, or

b) That's a neat idea, because it wouldn't get snapped in the bottom of a school bag, or

c) Wonder if it stings?

Okay, I'd put money on that the sort of people who read this page, like me, all went for answer (c) straight away which is, of course, why I bought it. It's a very convenient size and could be used on someone OTK, it's safer than a hard wooden ruler on the palm of the hand, and it looks to have good potential for what my old maths teacher in primary school used to describe as "a good whizzing 'round the back of the legs."

What I'm lacking at present is a young lady who would like me to try it out on her so I had to resort to trying it on myself which is never as good but does at least give me an idea of what it's effects might be. I can report that it does sting and the flexibility allows you to use a bit more force than you might with a rigid rule - result of one firm stroke on the palm of my hand and it was still uncomfortably sore ten minutes later which I find unusual. It's also a bit less noisy than many similar items so could be useful in hotel rooms.

Now all I need is a young lady - say 18-30 - and preferably in the North East of England...

Yippee! I'm back

It's been quite a month but I'll try to make up for lost time. Anyway to kick things off, I just had in the post a new Rosie Nieper catalogue. For those who don't know, they're mainly quite witty slogans but all very vanilla stuff. Apart, this time, from this one...

The toy I always wanted

When I was a kid there was one toy that - year after year - I hoped someone would buy me but never did. I used to love playing with them when I went other kids houses but never had my own. Probably I would never have had the patience to do anything good with it but I just wanted an Etch-a-Sketch.

Now the American Spanking Society have shown just what is possible if you can be bothered. If I'd seen this before I just might have bought one myself!

Chelsea changes

Women all over the UK seemed to be devastated by the departure from Chelsea Football Club (soccer) on their manager Jose Mourinho (a.k.a. The Special One) and his subsequent replacement by the (largely unknown) Avram Grant. While admitting that Mourinho's press conferences were a delight, the change seems rather less devastating to me - perhaps because of the headline in The Sunday Times on 23rd September proclaiming THE CHELSEA GIRL READY FOR A SPANKING.

This refers to Avram Grant's wife, Tzofit Grant, who is a 42 year old TV-host in Israel where she has variously bathed in liquid chocolate and, more interestingly, received a spanking from a practising sado-masochist. No pictures of the actual spanking so far (if you have one, I'd love to see it...) but quite a few others of the lady concerned. And I for one wouldn't mind helping out if she's missing her experiences from back home...
