In the late 1960s, it was often the case in English schools that corporal punishment was applied for serious offences. In many mixed schools, the practice was that boys would get the cane while girls would get the slipper. It was also the rule that punishment had to be carried out by a teacher of the same gender as the pupil being punished. At one school I know of, there was one of the women teachers who didn't do anything to hide her lesbian tendencies and, if they had been given the choice, most of the girls would far rather have been slippered by a male teacher than by her. However, that option was not available.

Celebrating the classic British plimsoll
First things first, James, let's y'all rejoice in the sound of the classic, ubiquitous British plimsoll SMACKING good n hard, the tender, chubby, bare backsides of recalcitrant daughters back at home in yore in the UK ! That earnest, raucous, rasping-raw sound of good parental discipline, with bare bottomed girls bending over the armchair, kitchen chair, bed, or even the OTK ! YUP! Slipper to bare schoolgirl botty STINGS !! Just par for the course & widely advocated in the golden, post-war years (1950s-90s)
Oh my! The compelling Readers' Letters in Janus & Roue were visceral & almost resonant in their accounts of naughty daughters having their panties pulled down for a good, bare botty blistering with the parental slipper AKA the common black plimsoll. Pray, was the plimsoll designed for this very purpose, James ?
The plimsoll was the perfect botty smacker, and as an American Southern belle I was a big fan of it.....even though it was not common in the South (& it was not something I received as a young girl or I used on my 2 daughters. It was the rattan cane in my family: like mother, like daughter, already)
The plimsoll was cheap, utilitarian, egalitarian & accessible & easily stored. It was Oh so very light, with a really hard, flexible-resin-rubber ribbed sole. Ideal ! The light uppers & hard sole made it bendy and perfect for smacking very hard across bare, sensitive-skinned, schoolgirl buttocks to award a very sound, scarlet-sore spanking. A stinging botty for said naughty girl was an understatement, James !! Oh my! It was perfectly safe & totally harmless too. No bruising but a terrible, ferocious sting on the tender, unprotected bare bot.....just as I always recommended, and should be the case at home from mom.
I never liked American paddles, James. Unpatriotic moi ? Why, I preferred the slipper (plimsoll) - flexible & stingy ! I say preferred, but in for me it was only the cane not the slipper....across my own bare bottom (from mom in the 60s/70), & then yes, across my two daughters' bare bottoms from me (80s/90s). The plimsoll is far superior to the paddle - and could be used across the clothed bottoms of girls at school, & across their unclothed bottoms at home. So yes, the plimsoll replaces the paddle ? That is my thesis, James. Oh my! What a thought ?!
Back in the 1980s/90s, the lovely Church moms asked me about spankings for daughters & what advice I would suggest ? Y'all discussed this in Christian circles, James. I always advocated "cane to bare botty" as a harsh but fair chastisement in front of God. That's what my my own daughters received from me at that time, & I recounted my own (& my sister's) frequent childhood, knicks-down canings. Top quality, thin, ultra-flexi, rattan cane & yes, the panties must always come down. They need to fear n feel it bare botty, James ! And they did.
Some moms did not want the cane for their girls, so I did mention the plimsoll - the British one, not the typical US sneaker. Naturally, plimsolls & canes were less accessible than the Southern leather strap, which was the main implement for sure. In the 1960s, my papa wanted this typical Southern strap for his daughters' bare bums, but mom insisted on the cane, already. Mom was in charge (& more strict) & so the rattan cane it was for sister & me. And so this dreaded, whippy cane first whistled across my sensitive, duly bared bottyland just before my 7th birthday. And so the past became a different country as they say, James.
However, quite a few moms gotten the cane for their daughters' bare backsides after my advice in yore (I still give the exact same advice now, James !!!! I am senior at Church & expect polite, well-behaved Southern belles at all times !! I am strict traditionalist) Positive feedback about the salutary effects of the rattan rod on bare princess brat behinds & subsequent better behaviour abound, already ! Same as it ever was, James.
