Just came across this cutting from 1974 and I'm sorry to say that I can remember getting very excited following the story in the newspapers at the time.
The case came to court because the Sunday People published a story about how lieutenant-colonel John Brooks had lured the 19-year-old Manchester University student on to his boat for a trip up the river and then forced her to strip before he spanked her about thirty times before telling her to rub some whisky on her bottom to take away the sting (never tried that, but it seems likely to me that he just wanted to rub her bottom for a bit longer).
The story was substantially correct, except it turned out that he often hired young ladies for this particular pastime and it had been made very clear to her beforehand what she was getting paid to do. The newspaper lost the defamation case, and the colonel was awarded a rather derisory
½ penny in damages (although the newspaper had to bear the court costs).
What subsequently happened to Miss Carr never seemed to be reported - presumably she had the embarrassment of her friends and family reading that she'd allowed a stranger to strip her naked and spank her bottom, but then she would have expected that when she took her story to the newspaper. I tend to the view that the editor of the newspaper should, perhaps, have also given her a thorough spanking for misleading him about the original circumstances.

Is it really 44 years ago? That makes me feel very old as I remember being very interested in this story at the time. I had only just realised that I had an interest in spanking and the idea that there were ladies who would allow you to spank them was intriguing. I also remember a few years later going to see the film "The Ups and Downs of a Handyman" which featured a spanking squire clearly based on the colonel in this story.
Oh Lord. I remember this story and I was a married man by then. I feel old.

I can remember reading a story in the News of the World under the heading 'Heads Spanking Went Too Far'.
A headmaster was tried for indecent assualt on two teenage schoolgirls who had been caught kissing their boyfriends on school premises and whose bare bottoms he spanked in the presence of the deputy headmistress. I read a copy of this report in an edition of Kane Magazine, but cannot remember which one.
The original story appeared back in the 60s when I was a young teenager and even then I was fascinated by spanking.
Wow, 2 of my favorite things: Spanking & Whisky. And just about the time I became interested in both. And yet I didn't even think of putting together!!!

Targetarear - you're thinking of the Helston case - I'll dig out some information and post it
Interesting find, James.
This girl was born in 1955 & so for me the real, interesting & unreported (but routinely normal) story here, is that she gotten strictly raised by CP by her parents at home. She feared & felt the smack of the rattan cane across her bare bottom when she misbehaved as a lil' girl. Oh my ! A well-smacked hiney was just par for the course & a common cure. I gotten raised exactly as a child the same with my sister (with the dreaded lil' cane soundly on our bare botties from mother !!), being born in 1959 in Georgia.
In turn, I also then raised my own two daughters (1980s born) the same strict way with that same flexible, thin, rattan spanky-stick applied to their bare backsides from a young age when deserved. Why back in the 1950s, 60s, 70s & even 80s, CP was similar between USA & Europe. Very different now, James. Oh my !
