The shock of discovering she really isn't too old to have her pants pulled down and her bottom spanked hard seems to be currently being uppermost in her mind rather than the actual pain of the spanking itself.

Yes, cute photo James, but the ferocious smack of the "botty smacker" that I used on my own two young daughters would be much feared & felt & "uppermost" in her mind, already. Stung like Hell on a bare behind !
My girls are now in their 30s but growing up they gotten punished by yours truly, for lies or bad behaviour with the "hornets nest" - a very thin, very flexible, quality piece of rattan cane (like a dowel rod). This "switch" was applied to their bare backsides in the living room. It sure mad them squawk with their knickers pulled down, that is the idea of corporal punishment. Harmless and most salutary, I found, James !
And I received the exact same whoopings on my bare botty from my own mother at home in Atlanta, in the 1960s. In fact, my younger sister & me gotten to name the switch-cane, the "hornets nest", a name still referred to in our family today, naturally. My mother is now in her 80s, me approaching 61 & my lil' cute sister...approaching 60 ha-ha. Oh my !
Just one point James, as a strict, loving conservative Southern mom, I believed in routine formality & brief rituals for spankings (including bottom baring etc). Some humbling is inevitable as part of loving CP, but humiliation is to be avoided at all costs. I did not tolerate PC or wishy-washy snowflake nonsense for discipline. The only penalty my young daughters ever gotten was a well-smacked botty (and like I only ever gotten as a child!)
So my girls, after the spanking, had to put hands on heads while I pulled their panties back up over their scarlet seats; & pulled up their shorts or smartened down their dresses/skirts. There was no "corner time" in our house James (nor for me as a child either.) They gotten hugged & sent to their rooms & I put the cane back in the downstairs cupboard & got on with my busy day ! That was the punishment, and as we Christians say,"in front of God".

Absolutely right, James. Wonderful photo & generic image of how naughty daughters gotten disciplined at home, sadly not today but during that post war golden age: 1940s-1980s.
A naughty daughter like AJR here, arriving home from school in disgrace, could expect to have her pants taken down (AKA panties, knickers) to feel, fear & hear the maternal cane whistling across the bare skin of her bottom with appropriate "tough love" stinging force. I strongly approved back in the day, James....pray, that was how I gotten punished as a young girl by mom at home.
The cane sure stings on a bare botty James - that is the idea - . as my sister & I ruefully recall having gotten it a huge bunch growing up in the 1960s & 70s. I am 67 now. Moreover, & pray again, my own two daughters will also ruefully recall it...as they gotten the exact same from me in the 1980s/90s when I raised them lovingly but very strictly with the cane in the conventional Southern style (Georgia SA). I was stern - their panties did not misbehave James !!! On the bare it was.
In the South, the strap is more common for we girls, but sister & I only gotten the whippy-thin, quality rattan cane. Oh my! And that was simply because our mom gotten the cane across her own bare buttocks as a child, & so it was strictly "like mother like daughters" for sister & me in our house.
Oh my! Why, I felt such a visceral strong affinity with the daughters/nieces of Janus magazines, who featured in all the Letters & articles....including spanker moms who wrote those letters & who had been raised with frequent, proper, bare bottom punishments with the cane or tawse throughout their earlier years.
Oh my! I have a plethora of Janus magazines James, from the mid-1970s to early 1980s, that report on how daughters were punished at home ....well, just like this lovely photo above !! I loved the strict, salutary non-wishy-washy approach of the good trad homes in the UK back then, James.
As a young girl in the 1960s, crying & protesting, with my hands on my head, staring at the terrible botty smacker (cane) on the sofa, with my overalls being unfastened & lowered, prior to mom taking hold of the elastic waistband of my traditional, cotton knickers for the dreaded, squishy-white, soft bottom reveal....
....at this moment of truth.....I often asked my mother why she always had to take my panties down to punish me on my bare botty with the cane, rather than say, tanning me over my panties or shorts ??!
