Much as I loved Janus, most of the spankings and canings in the photo stories were on the tame side - partly because they were always very concerned about showing marks. This one depicting a shoplifter being caned by the in-store security was something of an exception - it did look like a really painful caning. The fact that the girl bore more than passing resemblance to someone I had something of a crush on at the time may have helped as well....

It was the Janus bookstore that I visited it, whenever I came to London on a visit. For me they were the forerunner and pioneer of a spanking era, that has now blossomed fully fledged upon us. Like Darwin, Freud, Einstein, and Kinsey.

I doubt the marks were real which is a shame, as that arse deserved severe treatment.
I agree Janus was afraid of showing cane marks at one time but there are occcasional 'gems' as depicted! I think the cane marks are real and a sound caning has been given with many stroke of the cane.Some appear to have landed quite high up where the flesh is thin and would really have hurt!
Pity shoplifters are not in fact caned- it would substantially reduce these crimes at a stroke!

I remember the first Janus magazines I read had no problem showing marks and unlike some magazines, I always thought they were genuine. Then suddenly they stopped, I'm stretching my memory a bit but probabley somewhere between issue 70 and 80, and it was something to do with the law rather than just Janus going soft.

Janus was probably one of the first CP mags that I came across, possibly in the 70's. Of course in those days you were not allowed to get away with what you can now, but they do bring back fond memories!
Does anybody remember 'Madame' magazine? That was another I enjoyed.
However, the advent of the Internet allows much more latitude and of course access to movies.
The majority of CP movies have a 'sameness' about them, but if you are lucky you will find find some high quality, well shot films with a storyline and actresses who really love their work.

I so loved Janus too already - and I remember this photo & article the first time around, back in the day. Mainly because this was the punishment I gotten as a child from my mother - cane to the bare botty ! Uncompromising and administered in or living room in the 1960s/70s. It was harsh but harmless. My younger sister gotten the same - just a normal fact of life in our strict, religious family in Atlanta, Georgia. Oh my ! PC nonsense was light years away, James.
Our elderly pious neighbours sure approved - being close "over the fence" they sure heard us being whooped, with windows & doors open ! The smack of rattan on bare buttocks and our loud screams. Oh my ! It was just a mother's firm chastisement. And the Church also advocated my mother's discipline already...albeit my friends in our Princess Gang (Church & Bible Class buddies) gotten the more commonly used Southern strap and maybe a "switching" on their bare backsides in the traditional manner.
I then discovered Janus as a student (having left home) in the 1970s. I loved the realistic, sober, formality of the contexts and scenes, both in the domestic and schoolgirl settings. I was compelled to view these magazines in the shops, reminding me of my strict, religious upbringing. I have always liked reality in CP, not fantasy. Janus was "realistic" without theatrical fantasy or nonsense. I also never liked "spanking porn". Janus was a purist CP publication.
In the 1980s, I gotten God-blessed with two wonderful daughters. I was a very strict, loving mother (normal in my book !) and raised them with the same thin, rattan cane ("switch") that I gotten raised with - yes, on their bare bottoms every time, for sure. It is the only way to do it in my book. No half-measures ! I do not accept PC nonsense. My girls are now in their 30s and I am 60. They are pro-spanking and thank me for the CP and strict, caring, attentive parenting that they gotten. That is a fairly normal traditional, conservative set of Southern family values and social mores, James.

That is the oft quoted edict from my mother back in the 1960s & 70s, when my sister & I gotten our panties pulled down for 12 strokes of the cane on our bare behinds. That was the usual, standard punishment at home, growing up - "a spanking" as it was called !! Oh my! No quarter given. Quite right too. Why yes, our poor botties looked exactly like this girl's in the photo here!!
Further to my post above in 2019, I am still mesmerized by this photo from Janus 15 in March 1982. Goodness, James, that will soon be 42 years' ago!
And I shall be 65 soon in the New Year - well, I do seem to be getting even stricter in my youthful age, James, ha-ha! I remember this photo so well when I purchased the Janus edition in March 1983....the harsh but harmless reality of a well-caned backside!
It was a realistic actual caning too, as you say, which was typical of the early pioneering Janus editions in the 1970s and early 1980s. Things changed in the late 80s, as CP & wishy-washy sensitivities meant contrived & manufactured smacked bottoms in Janus & Blushes, sadly (albeit still good photos, of course)
I always preferred the more amateur, authentic bare bottom caning photos (often in black n white) which viscerally reminded me of mother's cane whistling across my own sensitive-skinned, bare, white botty when I was a naughty, young girl requiring a skelping "in front of God" at home.
As a Christian-raised, Southern belle & mom from Georgia, I am a staunch support of CP & my own two daughters gotten the same whippy-thin, rattan cane across their bare bottoms (always on the bare!!) when I raised them, with strict, loving discipline & values, in the 1980s n 90s. Obviously they are both all grown up now in their late 30s. They are both pro-spanking & are typical Southern, church-attending girls who advocate CP at home. I have always advocated & recommend "cane to bare botty" when discussing how to raise daughters with discipline, over the decades, with fellow Christian moms at Church; albeit of course, the Southern strap is a more commonly used bottom smacker, James.
The recalcitrant girl in this photo is experiencing what I call "harmless Hell". The cane on bare buttocks is very effective & stingy, as my daughters & I can sure recall!! That is the idea. It is punishment!
But it is also totally harmless. And to be recommended! Indeed, as mom said to me in the 1960s & 70s, "there is no point in smacking your bottom with a lettuce leaf, Brenda!". Sure thing, "don't spare the rod...and don't spare the bare" James. My motto has served me well as a well-raised daughter & strict, loving mother
So yes, this classic photo above is a rueful, nostalgic reminder, (ouchieees to botty!) Bravo, James! Great to see it once again. OK, it's not quite in the same, super-legendary Pippa Marshall caning league of that same year- Janus 1982...that was Volume 23, in November that year!
But still, that suitably chastised, red, stripey bottom above, really is powerfully memorable, already!
